Welcome to Lytton Creek Blacksmiths. We are but simple Texas hill country blacksmiths living in the past with a T-3 net feed.

Hopefully we will be live on the Blacksmith Cam on New Year's Eve 1999

Latest Lytton Y2K Update

After extensive testing we believe that Lytton Creek Blacksmiths is 100% Y2K compliant. As part of our assessment and remediation policy we checked all our critical systems and reported the following results:

  • good coal seems to burn and within +/- 225 million years or so, appears to be date insensitive;
  • basic forge physics appear date insensitive;
  • hammers seem ok;
  • got fire making ability
In addition to testing critical systems we tested non-critical system topography and reported the following results:

  • iron and steel left out in the open tend to rust regardless of date;
  • our lack of rain doesn't seem to make much of a difference;
  • our servers may go down.

Not all that NEW! - webTV & AOL friendly Gift Shop where we currently have a small variety of products for home, hearth, garden and range. If you have a special item in mind and cannot find it at the gift shop, fill out our Custom Order inquiry and we will get back to you with more information. We also have a Bookstore courtesy of Amazon.com with over 50 titles on blacksmithing and 19th century life.

If you are new to blacksmithing check out our Basics section. There you will find basic terminology and an overview of the process as well as instructions for making your own pump bellows and forge. Our Advanced section provides techniques on traditional methods of welding, cutting and splitting, decorative twisting and riveting. Check out our photo page to see many of these techniques performed.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our site and will come away with some of the excitement we have about this disappearing art.
